About Us

Established in 1963, the GBU Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to help our donors achieve their philanthropic goals and potential. We focus on expanding the positive impact that foundation donors and GBU members have on their communities through the awarding of grants and scholarships.

The GBU Foundation has provided merit-based scholarships to deserving students for more than sixty years. In 2023, the foundation launched a community grants program to provide grants to organizations that are supporting their local communities through GBU Life’s (GBU) four Community Pillars – Wellness, Education, Charitable Giving, and Hometown Hero Support.  Community grants are funded by donations from GBU Life’s One Member at a Time program, donations from the foundation’s Day of Giving on October 23 and sponsorships from supporters like you.

The GBU Foundation awarded $70,000 in Community Grant Awards and a $5,000 Community Builder award to 13 charitable organizations in 2024. Recipients were nominated and selected by GBU members and community supporters. Over 7,000 votes were cast to decide the winners.

In 2025, the foundation plans to award over $100,000 in Community Grant Awards to nonprofits in the communities across the U.S. where GBU’s 70,000 members live.
