DIY Shelter for Furry Friends

About the Challenge

With the seasons changing and cold weather approaching, it can be hard for some animals, such as feral cats, to stay warm. Feral and outdoor cats can be an important factor to our environment as they regulate rodent and vermin populations. Let’s help them stay cozy this season with a DIY shelter.

Items Needed

  1. A shelter base (what the animal will be sleeping in) can be a variety of materials. Select something that can hold heat in and that is not too big. The size should be smaller so that only 1-3 cats can fit. This way body heat can circulate better and other animals won’t be able to take over space.
  2. Filling for the base. Filling such as straw or mylar blankets are then added to create a cozy space to hold heat. It is important that the filling is not water absorbent so that your shelter stays warm AND dry for our furry friends.
