Large Network

Tuition Rewards can be used at SAGE Scholars network of over 450 colleges and universities nationwide.

How The Tuition Rewards Program Works

• One Tuition Rewards Point is equal to a $1 guaranteed minimum discount off the full price of tuition.

• Tuition Rewards can be used at over 450 SAGE Scholars colleges and universities, with 90% ranked “America’s Best” by U.S. News and World Report.

• GBU members can sponsor children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and godchildren in their immediate or extended family.

• Enrolled GBU members earn Tuition Rewards Points for loyalty-related activities:

• Opening a new Whole Life or Term Life Insurance policy, or Annuity.

• Annually, for the length of the policy or the continued payment of premiums and the renewal of contracts

• Each GBU member and each eligible sponsor who completes their Tuition Rewards account registration will receive 500 bonus Tuition Rewards Points.

  • Enrolled GBU members earn 1,000 points for their life insurance policies each year (limit of 2 life policies per household)
  • Enrolled GBU members earn 5% of their annuity value in points each year
  • Signing up and being an active participant of Sage does not affect your annuity value and should be looked at as an additional benefit to having an annuity with GBU Life

Case Study:

Mary has a GBU Life insurance policy and a GBU Life annuity with a $50,000 value. She signs up for Sage Tuition Rewards when her granddaughter is in 6th grade. By the time her granddaughter is in her senior year of high school, Mary has earned:

  • 5% of $50,000 x 6 years (this does not include interest gained on that $50,000) = $15,000 on her annuity
  • 1000 points for her life insurance policy x 6 years = $6,000 on her life insurance policy
  • 500 bonus points for creating a Sage account

= $21,500 toward tuition at a participating Sage university

*Please note that Mary must transfer her points to her granddaughter by August 31 of her senior year of high school. Please also note that the maximum that a participating college is obligated to accept is 25% of the cost of tuition.

Sage Program Guidelines to Note:

  1. Students must be registered in the Tuition Rewards program prior to August 31st of the year that the student begins 12th grade
  2. Students cannot earn, or receive points after August 31st of the year that the student begins 12th grade
  3. A student’s Tuition Rewards must be submitted within ten (10) days of application to any Participating College
  4. "The maximum that a Participating College is obligated to accept is 25% of the cost of tuition (based on freshman year tuition), spread equally over four (or five if student is in a co-op program) years of undergraduate education. For example, if the “list price” of tuition for a school is $40,000 per year when the student matriculates, it means that the guaranteed minimum discount would be up to $10,000 per year (providing that at least 40,000 points were submitted to the school when the student applied). Published list prices are updated annually from the Higher Education Directory. One point equals one dollar in tuition discounts.
  5. "Please note that a small number of Participating Colleges accept less than 25%. To view the number of points that each Participating College accepts sign into your account and view the Participating Colleges list. This will show the number of points that each school is currently obligated to accept."
