
About the GBU Foundation
GBU members, districts and partners fund the GBU Foundation. Its vision and generosity help students take the next step towards achieving their dreams. In 2024, the Foundation provided $169,500 in scholarships and grants to 172 members attending two-year, four-year, and graduate programs. Meet our 2024 GBU Foundation scholars here. Since 1963, GBU Foundation has awarded over 4,219 scholarships. GBU Foundation scholarships are available to GBU Life policyholders and annuitants. Children, grandchildren, and other relatives of policyholders are not eligable. Click the button below to learn more about becoming an insured member.
GBU Foundation Scholarships and Grants
Apply for GBU Foundation scholarships and grants online. The application deadline is June 30, 2025.

Freshman Scholarships
- For students entering four-year programs leading to a bachelor’s degree
- $1,500 per year, renewable for up to three years

Two-Year Scholarships
- For students entering or currently in degree or certificate programs of up to two years in duration offered by vocational/technical schools, nursing schools, community colleges and similar institutions
- $1,000 per year, renewable for up to one additional year

Undergraduate Scholarships
- For students already in college programs leading to a bachelor’s degree
- $1,000 per year, renewable for up to two years
Graduate Scholarships
- For students in college graduate degree programs leading to advanced degrees
- $1,000 per year, renewable for up to one additional year

High School
Freshman Grant
- Must be an insured or annuitant GBU member enrolled in eighth grade
- $250 for educational expenses related to the student’s transition into high school
GBU District Scholarships

New England Fraternal Alliance
- Must be a New England resident and a GBU member* or the child of a GBU member*
- Must be enrolled as a full-time sophomore, junior or senior in an accredited college/university or graduate school
- Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
- Amount: Two $1,000 scholarships
- Members of other New England Fraternal Alliance fraternal benefit societies are also eligible
Apply by September 1, 2025.

Ohio Fraternal Alliance
- Must be an Ohio resident and a GBU member*
- Must be a 2025 graduating high school senior
- Amount: One scholarship up to $500
- Members of other Ohio Fraternal Alliance fraternal benefit societies are also eligible.
Apply by April 1, 2025.

Pennsylvania Fraternal Alliance
- Must be a Pennsylvania resident and a GBU member*
- Must be a 2025 graduating high school senior attending an accredited college, university, trade school, etc. in the summer/fall as a full-time student (12 semester credits)
- Amount: At least one $500 scholarship
