Through the GBU Life Birthday Bash initiative, GBU is bringing people together to create meaningful moments of joy in the communities we serve. Members, producers, and community leaders are invited to assemble and deliver cake kits to go to individuals and families who may otherwise go without a birthday celebration. For many, these kits mean more than cake. They represent being seen, valued, and celebrated. By hosting events, serving as collection points, or donating kits, the GBU Life family is helping turn everyday moments into lasting impact.
In honor of GBU Life’s founding in 1892, we’re setting a goal to pack and donate 1,892 cake kits between April 13 (GBU’s birthday) and June 30, 2026. Explore the ways you can get involved below.
What is a cake kit?
A Cake Kit is a simple, ready-to-use birthday kit that makes it easy for someone to celebrate their special day. Each kit consists of the essential items needed to bake and enjoy a birthday cake. These include a boxed cake mix, frosting, candles, and a can of soda (instead of eggs), all packaged together in a disposable baking pan for easy donation and distribution. The average cost of a kit is approximately $5.
Nonprofit organizations across the U.S.—including food pantries, family resource centers, domestic violence shelters, and senior centers—graciously accept and distribute Cake Kit donations. These organizations provide the kits to families in their network with upcoming birthdays. Each kit contains unprepared ingredients, allowing recipients to bake and enjoy their cake when it’s time to celebrate.
Here are the ways you can make the biggest impact:
Host a Collection Point
Drive clients to visit your office by registering as an official Birthday Bash Collection Point. We'll help you promote your Collection Point by featuring it on our website and emailing GBU members in your area.
Members, clients, and the public can drop off their assembled Cake Kits to your location between April 13 and June 30. Then, you deliver the collected kits to your selected non-profit organization. If you're not sure what organization to pick, we can help with that.
Hosts will receive a “Party Pack” with ready-to-use decorations and promotional materials to help set your Collection Point up for success.
Host a Birthday Bash Event
Host a "Birthday Bash" cake kit-packing event that the community can attend between April 13 and June 30. We will help you promote your event by featuring it on our website and emailing GBU members in your area.
Shop in advance for the materials needed for the number of kits you are pledging to pack. Members, clients, and the public can attend your event and help you reach your pledge number.
After your event, deliver the packed kits to your selected non-profit organization. If you're not sure which organization to pick, we can help with that.
Hosts will receive a “Party Pack” with ready-to-use decorations and promotional materials to help set your Collection Point up for success.
